The main part of DMDirc's installation process is the cross-platform installation wizard, which guides you through the process of installing DMDirc. The wizard is launched automatically by the platform-specific installers (see the topics on the right for more information).
When the Wizard opens, you will see an introductory message, briefly describing DMDirc. To start the installation, click on the "Next »" button
The second step allows you to customise how and where DMDirc will be installed. There are three sets of options: the installation location, shortcut installation, and protocol registration.
The "Install location" field allows you to specify where DMDirc will be installed. If the location doesn't exist, it will be created by the installer. The bottom-most "Make DMDirc handle irc:// links" controls whether the installer will register DMDirc as the default handler for IRC addresses on your computer; if this is selected, DMDirc will open when you click on any link beginning with irc://. The remaining options control where you want DMDirc to create shortcuts to itself. These options vary from platform to platform, and allow you to select from any relevant location (such as the desktop, application or start menu, or quick launch bar).
When you have selected your installation options, click on the "Next »" button to continue
The third step shows you a summary of what DMDirc is about to do. If you wish to change any of the options listed, simply click on the "« Previous" button to go back to step two. Otherwise, if you're happy with the options, click on the "Next »" button to continue and start the installation.
The fourth and final step of the installation wizard shows you the status of the installation as it is happening. When DMDirc has been installed successfully, an "Installation finished" message will be displayed. Simply click on the "Finish" button to close the installer.
